The impact of spending cuts on employee wellbeing
Dated: 08/11/2010
The spending cuts announced by the Government in October 2010 are sure to create uncertainty among both employers and employees. One sure outcome of the announcement, according to David Smith of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association, is an increase in demand for EAPs as individuals and line managers look for support to understand the changes and the impact they are likely to have.
"All sectors of the economy are likely to be impacted as a result of the Government's Spending Review. The concern among employees about he potential effect of these changes is very likely to lead to a growth in calls to EAPs relating to issues such as job security, personal finances and changes to existing welfare benefits," says David Smith, Secretary of the UK Employee Assistance Professionals Association.
"To ensure support is maximised and available to all employees and line managers, many EAP providers are stepping up employee communications. This focus helps employers to ensure their people are sufficiently supported in their personal life so they can remain focused in their professional one," he says.
